The thriving atmosphere of Coffs Harbour will welcome you in from the moment you arrive.
Many flock to Coffs Harbour during the summer, where the promise of excellent beaches proves exciting. There are plenty to choose from, like Charlesworth Bay Beach, Coffs Harbour Beach, and Jetty Beach. Jetty Beach has a historical 700-metre long jetty, and a walk along here could be a great start to the day. For any surfers keen to ride their next wave, Macauleys Beach has a left-handed point break that is great for all abilities.
A day at the beach will work up your appetite. Thankfully, Coffs is home to delicious artisan producers and eateries. A local favourite is definitely the Fishermen’s Co-op on the marina, as you can pick up your fresh dinner before watching the sunset over the water.
Australia loves its Big Things, and Coffs Harbour is no different. You’ll see the Big Banana soon after you cross the town’s border. A fantastic tribute to the banana fruit that grows in the area, it’s been a long-standing town icon. First constructed in 1964, the Big Banana was the first Big Thing in Australia, which is a fantastic achievement. Nowadays, the Big Banana is part of an amusement park and tourist attraction, and a visit here is a fun day out.
And finally, some holidays are meant for relaxing, and others for that ‘once in a lifetime moment’. Coffs has both. You can unwind while in the town with ample beaches and nature. But just a few metres offshore is an incredible experience that you might not get to do elsewhere. Jetty Dive offers swims with humpback whales as they migrate past the East Coast. This experience is only available from July to September, and places fill up fast - so if this is something that appeals to you, it’s best to register your interest early.

Perhaps have a break from the beach and drive inland to Dorrigo National Park. Once you pass the park’s boundaries, keep driving for another hour or so, and you’ll discover the majestic Crystal Falls: a thundering waterfall that impresses every visitor. You can see the falls from the 6.6-kilometre Wonga Walk, which starts from the Visitor Centre.
The East Coast is a renowned stretch of coastline, and the area around Coffs Harbour is no different. Drive up to Port Macquarie, and you’ll pass the Smoky Cape Lighthouse.
