The rural town of Biloela can be found in central Queensland. Its main industry is agriculture, and as such farm life is a defining characteristic of the town. Mines at Callide, Boundary Hilland Moura also provide commerce for the town.
Visiting Biloela means pausing to appreciate a more simple way of life. Fishing is popular pastime, with Lake Callide providing Barramundi, Silver Perch, Yellowbelly and more. The lake is regularly stocked and there are toilet and picnic facilities in the area, making it an ideal day out.
For a more typical picnic destination, there are numerous parks around town to relax in. Lions Park provides play equipment, as does Melton Park, where you’ll also find picnic facilities. The Queensland Heritage Park provides insight into the history and culture of Biloela society. Here you can learn more about Australian history and the Banana Shire, of which Biloela is a part. It’s a great way to get to know the area without travelling too far.
Further exploration of the area will reveal many natural wonders at places such as Overdeen State Forest, Kroombit Tops National Park and Grevillea State Forest. The Cania Gorge National Park is over an hour drive from the town but well worth the extra travel. There are numerous tracks of varying degrees of difficulty throughout the park, with spectacular views. The Fern Tree Pool is a tranquil gorge surrounded by lush greenery, while The Giant’s Chair Lookout provides a glorious view overlooking the park—particularly beautiful at sunset.
While a fairly small town, Biloela has a rustic charm that makes it a simple delight to visit. While it’s no major tourist attraction, this quiet Queensland town certainly has its own merit.
