One of the jewels of the apple Isle, Tasmania’s second biggest city is no second fiddle, but a vibrant metropolis in its own right that has rightfully won a special place in the heart of many visitors. This inland beauty is surrounded by astounding natural beauty, and the food and wine regions here are second to none. Let Launceston woo you with delicious food, glorious scenery and an environment that’s almost impossible not to feel relaxed in.
Platypus Encounters
The beautiful vistas of Lilydale Falls are well worth a visit, with the walking track an easy one to navigate that pays off with spectacular views. As the waterfalls cascade down and the birds sing in the trees, you’ll feel transported to a new and serene world of your own making. If you’re extremely lucky you might even spot one of the most iconic local residents – platypus are often encountered here, as it is a preferred habitat for them. There are camping grounds and barbeque areas here if you think you’d like to make a longer stay.

The Tamar Valley is a world-renowned good and wine region outside of Launceston where you can spend many happy hours visiting cellar doors and produce vendors throughout the region. Many outlets offer tours and “behind the scenes” access, and you’re sure to make some new discoveries that are as interesting as they are delicious. There’s boating trips you can do up the Tamar River if you want to experience the area from a whole new perspective, and any number of delightful “B&B”s to stay in so you can take your time and see it all.

The guided tour of the brewery gives you a fantastic overview of their processes, and then there is the opportunity to try the products of their intense labour yourself. Your designated driver will be happy to explore the gourmet meals on offer here while you sip a few brews.
