Merimbula is on the New South Wales coast, not far from the Victorian border. The airport lies on the peninsula between the tranquil blue waters of Merimbula Bay and Merimbula Lake, with a single bridge across the lake allowing access to the township of Merimbula. Market Street spans the water and continues into the heart of the town, which provides an abundance of creature comforts in the form of fashion outlets, cafes and restaurants.
Merimbula Airport provides easy access to both Merimbula to the north and Pambula to the south. Either direction provides stunning beaches and adventurous pastimes. The Pambula Merimbula Golf Club is a popular destination, as is the Merimbula Main Beach, where postcard-perfect waves are a common sight. There are plenty of water activities to keep visitors occupied, such as surfing, paddle-boarding and kayaking. You can hire equipment from Mitchies Jetty: a family business that is frequented by tourists and locals alike.
Across the lake lies the Merimbula Boardwalk, which is a 3.4km walk that provides glorious views of the area. It’s an easy trek perfect for an evening stroll. The Rotary Walk, beginning near Spencer Park, is another journey worth taking and is more secluded, though slightly trickier with narrow bridges and steps cut from rock.
Merimbula Airport provides perfect access to both the southern Bega Valley—a region ripe with local produce for you to sample—and the northern beaches of the Sapphire Coast; you’ll get lush greenery and magnificent sights in either direction. Travel further north and you’ll encounter the peaceful trails of Bournda National Park, while Ben Boyd National Park in the south provides its own interactions with nature. Whichever way you decide to travel in this remarkable area, you won’t be disappointed.
