Alice Springs Reptile Centre byHertz AU

Alice Springs Reptile Centre banner

If you’re keen to get up close and personal with some Aussie icons, look no further than the Alice Springs Reptile Centre.

Containing over 100 reptiles across more than 30 different species, the Alice Springs Reptile Centre offers the largest display of reptiles in Central Australia.   You’ll get to see reptiles of all sizes both in indoor and outdoor habitats.  These include a range of lizards such as Neck Lizards, Goannas, Thorny Devils and even a selection of Geckos from the Alice Springs Region.

There are also pythons and some of the most venomous snakes in the world including Brown Snakes, Death Adders, Mulga Snakes and Inland Taipans.   And, of course, you can visit the Reptile Centre’s resident crocodile, a 3.3 metre saltwater croc who goes by the name of Terry.

Demonstrations and Reptile Handling

The passionate staff hold free demonstrations every day at 11am, 1pm and 3.30pm.  These demonstrations are designed to teach you more about the reptiles including how they live in the wild, how to handle lizards and whether Australian snakes are really as dangerous as people think they are.

After the talks you have an opportunity to hold the snakes and lizards, if you’re game. Trained staff will guide you as you handle and feed the reptiles. Make sure you have your camera ready so you can show your family and friends back home just how close you got!

Gecko Cave

The Cave Room first opened its doors in 2006.  Living within the specially designed cave are many different species of geckos all on display for you to admire.   The Gecko Cave sits at the front of the centre and is the perfect place to start your visit.

How Much Does it Cost

Entry to Alice Springs Reptile Centre is approximately $14 for adults.

How to Get There

Depending on where you are based in Alice Springs, the Reptile Centre, located on Stuart Terrace right across from Billy Goat Hill, might be as simple as a walk from your accommodation.  If this is the case, you are free to leave your hire car behind and enjoy the fresh Alice Springs air.

Otherwise, reaching the Reptile Centre is easy in the rental car you picked up from Hertz Alice Springs Airport Car Rental location.

When to Go

The Reptile Centre is open every day from 9.30am to 5pm.
