For a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the Brisbane city, take a journey into the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha. Located at the base of Mount Coot-tha, Brisbane’s tallest mountain, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha are a stunning oasis just 7 kilometres from the city. It’s a nice, easy drive in your hire car from your accommodation in the city. The Botanic Gardens are filled with a range of different gardens featuring both native and exotic plants across 52 hectares.
The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium – a planetarium featuring exciting and interesting programs for both kids and adults alike
Tropical Display Dome – the Tropical Display Dome, with its stable climatic environment, houses a range of rare, fragile and exotic plants from the tropics
Bonsai House – a collection of over 300 bonsai plants where you can discover everything you ever wanted to know about the ancient art of bonsai
Arid Zone and Cactus House – an area containing impressive selection of dry region plants from Central America and Africa
Fragrant Plant and Herb Garden – take your senses on a journey in the vast Fragrant Plants and Herb Garden
National Freedom Wall – the Freedom Wall is a dedication to peace and to servicemen and women who gave their lives to bring peace to Australia.
Hide and Seek Children’s Trail – something a bit of fun for the kids. The Hide and Seek Children’s Trail is set in the Exotic Rainforest.
Free guided walks are available every day except Sundays, at 11am and 1pm. Volunteer guides will provide you with interesting facts about the plants and the Botanic Gardens. These walks take about one hour, at a leisurely pace.

There are a number of fascinating trails to walk along including the Aboriginal Plant Trail, the Australian Plant Communities Trail and the White Arrow Trail.
The Botanic Gardens also make for a wonderful place to sit, relax and enjoy a picnic lunch. There are multiple picnic areas throughout the gardens. If you don’t want to pack your own lunch, you can buy food from Botanical, the gardens’ café. Botanical is a gorgeous café overlooking the Bamboo Grove and Temperate Garden Lagoons. It’s open from 8am until 5pm every day and serves breakfast and lunch as well as snacks and beverages.
The gardens are open all year round from 8am until 5.30pm. During the winter months, from April to August, the gardens close at 5pm
Entry to the gardens is free.
Just 7 kilometres from Brisbane, Brisbane Botanical Gardens Mount Coot-tha is an easy drive in the Brisbane Airport rental car you picked up from Hertz at Brisbane airport.
