Every night during Darwin’s dry season, April to November, the Deckchair Cinema is open for business. Stretch out on a deckchair, relax and enjoy a movie under the stars.
The Deckchair Cinema is located in the beautiful Darwin Harbour, amongst tropical gardens. Operated by the Darwin Film Society, Deckchair Cinema is also unique in the movies it shows. In addition to popular and classic films, Deckchair Cinema also screens festival and foreign films. To see what’s showing, check out the program.
Deckchair Cinema has a licensed kiosk where you can buy soft drink as well as alcoholic beverages. The kiosk also sells delicious, locally made ice cream.Dinner food is available for purchase or you can bring your own picnic to eat in front of the stunning sunset before your movie.

If you visit Deckchair Cinema on a Thursday night you might also be helping to fundraise for a local organisation. Some Thursday nights are charity evenings for different organisations. Everyone is welcome and all you need to do is purchase your ticket and turn up.
Gates open at 6.30 and movies commence at 7.30. If you head there early you can enjoy the beautiful sunset over the harbour and take advantage of the fully licensed kiosk and other food options.
Deckchair Cinema is located on Jervois Road, off Kitchener Drive, Darwin Waterfront. It’s easy to get to via a picturesque walkway off of the city esplanade. Depending on where you are staying, you could either drive over in your Hertz Darwin Airport car rental or walk. There is plenty of parking options for your rental car. Parking is free after 6pm.
You can buy your tickets at the box office when you arrive or you can book online beforehand here. Due to the popularity of Deckchair Cinema, booking online is recommended so you don’t miss out. Double sessions run on Friday and Saturday nights with the first movie commencing at 7.30 and the second at 9.30.
