If you’re heading to Brisbane and you’re not quite sure where to start, why not ask a local to show you around?
Brisbane Greeters are a group of Brisbane locals which offer themselves up as free personal tour guides. The Greeters are very friendly and highly knowledgeable locals who will take you behind the scenes of Brisbane and show you things you’d never have found on your own.
The best part is, Brisbane Greeters’ tours are entirely free. They are open to everyone regardless of your group size so you can organise a tour whether you are travelling on your own, with a partner or in a large group. The tours will take you off the main the tourist track to discover the gems of Brisbane. You can choose from the suggested tour formats or you can customise your own journey. Whether you’re interested in arts and culture, wining and dining, heritage and architecture or sites and attractions you’ll find a tour bound to suit your interests.
If art and culture is your thing try the ‘Feast of Public Art Tour’, the ‘Major City Cultural Attractions Tour’, the ‘City Precincts Tour’ or the ‘Artful Nature Tour’.
Or if history and heritage is more your cup of tea why not try the ‘Wartime Brisbane and the Americas Tour’? You could also try the ‘Government History Legacy Tour’ or the ‘Riverside Precincts Tour’.
If you are travelling with a family and are looking for something that will entertain the whole gang, the Greeters also have suggested the ‘Family Fresh Food Tour’ so you can fill their bellies, ‘The Great Outdoors Tour’ to exert some of that young energy or the ‘Scientifically Speaking Tour’ to use their brains and solve some mysteries. There’s also the ‘River Colour Magic Tour’ which will see your day spent along the Brisbane River.
If you’re interested in discovering Brisbane’s architecture consider taking the ‘Churches, Shrines and Sculpture Tour’ or the ‘Contemporary Design Tour’. There’s also the ‘Historic Pub Tour’ which is bound to tick a few boxes.
To organise your Brisbane Greeters tour you’ll need to put in a request on their website at least seven days before your arrival. This will allow the Brisbane Greeters to organise a suitable tour and a suitable guide based on the experience you are hoping for. Your Greeter will know the ins and outs of Brisbane and will be able to provide you with a unique and valuable experience.
The tours are conducted on foot so you won’t need to hire a car for this occasion or if you’ve already picked up a car from Hertz at Brisbane airport car rental, you can leave it behind at your accommodation.
