Gold Coast Marathon 2015 guide with Hertz Gold Coast Car Rental byHertz AU

Gold Coast Marathon 2015 guide with Hertz Gold Coast Car Rental banner

The annual Gold Coast Marathon is Australia’s premier road race, to be held on the first weekend of July. It attracts more than 27,000 participants of all ages and abilities across a number of races – the Gold Coast Marathon 2015 to be held on Sunday July 5 and some shorter races on Saturday July 4. Running alongside to the Gold Coast’s surf beaches and broadwater, this is one of the flattest and fastest courses in the world, and in July you can expect low wind, low humidity and mild temperatures. You might just record a personal best time here in these ideal conditions.

Before the firing gun blasts, marathon runners will be treated to a rousing motivational speech from ambassador, Rob de Castella, himself a marathon great. The start line will be at the Gold Coast Highway adjacent to the Nerang Street intersection. Supporters will line the course over the first kilometre as you get underway, crossing Southport Bridge and passing Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach and Miami. Turn at Burleigh Heads and Runaway Bay, then you’re into the final stretch to the finish line, on the eastern side of the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. From here runners will enter the recovery area and receive a medal and shirt.

You will need to collect your race number from the check in centre before 5pm on Saturday 4 July. On Sunday, the recommended arrival time is 6.20 am for a 7.30 am start time. The Race Precinct is located at the Broadwater Parklands; there will be roving entertainment on the events lawn throughout the weekend and a big screen to watch the race next to the main stage. Supporters can also get out to watch and support runners between Burleigh Heads and Runaway Bay.

If you are planning on bringing your Gold Coast car rental, the best spot to be dropped off is on Scarborough Street. Car parking will be free and available at Australia Fair Shopping Centre, Mal Burke Car Park on Hicks St, Athol Patterson on Suter St and Carey Park on Marine Parade. Nearby accommodation options for the Gold Coast Marathon 2015 include Sundale Motel, Arrival, and Meriton Apartments.
