Perth Australia Day 2015 Guide from the Hertz Perth Airport car rental team byHertz AU

Perth Australia Day 2015 Guide from the Hertz Perth Airport car rental team banner

Every year on January 26, Australia celebrates its official national day – Australia Day. On 1788, the first fleet of British ships arrived in New South Wales and the flag of Great Britain was raised at Port Jackson. Over the past few decades interest and participation in Australia Day has been on the rise and all the states and territories now celebrate this public holiday at the same time. From fireworks to barbecues, concerts to festivals and sports matches, there are a multitude of events planned around the country to mark Australia Day 2015.

If you’re going to be in Perth for Australia Day 2015, Hertz Perth has you covered with Perth airport car hire. With audiences estimated at close to half a million, Perth Skyworks is the largest single event thrown on Australia Day. For Australia Day 2015, it will mark 31 years of Skyworks. The annual celebration includes an assortment of family friendly activities at the Langley Park Entertainment Zone from 3pm and a Celebration Zone in South Perth. The Hawkers Markets will be on hand with an Australia Day edition as well as a typical Aussie BBQ in Langley Park.

During the afternoon look out for an Australia Day aviation spectacle with planes, helicopters and other craft taking to the skies. From 8pm a fireworks display and a laser and water show will captivate watchers for about half an hour. Many people travel into the city to watch the Skyworks event on Australia Day, even getting there early to camp out and reserve prime spots for a good view, while others observe from hills and bridges. Good Skyworks viewing points are in South Perth, Kings Park and the foreshore.

If you are around the day before, make the most of the long weekend and head out to Swan Valley for an Australia Day musical extravaganza on Sunday. Sounds in the Valley is back for the Australia Day 2015 long weekend. From approximately 4.30pm to 10.30pm, enjoy the live entertainment in Swan Valley’s biggest outdoor beer garden at Elmar’s in the Valley. The all country line up includes Lee Kernaghan, Adam Brand, The Wolfe Brothers and Magnificent 7.
