Perth’s answer to Napa Valley, is the stunning Swan Valley. Located just 20 minutes from Perth, an easy drive in your Hertz Perth Airport Car Rental, this wine region is the oldest in Western Australia. Swan Valley is home to rich heritage, stunning bushland and award-winning local produce.

Things to Do

Of course, Swan Valley is known for its wineries so you’ll have the option of visiting any number of wineries to view the beautiful vineyards and sample the local wine. There are also microbreweries and rum distilleries to visit. You can hop onboard a tour which will take you to the various wineries and breweries, or alternatively you could drive yourself in your rental car along the Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail. A brochure detailing this award-winning trail can be picked up from the vistor’s centre in Guildford. In addition to exploring the wineries, Swan Valley has a range of activities to take part in including horse riding, cycling, hiking and golf. Or, you could explore the art, history and Indigenous culture of the area.

The historic town of Guildford, is rich in both heritage and charm. It is a fantastic place to visit on your journey to Swan Valley. Filled with old buildings from when the Europeans settled, it offers an antique strip with boutiques and art galleries. There are historic pubs and charming cottages all of which can be explored along the Guildford Heritage Walk Trail. A brochure can be picked up from the visitor’s centre to help you make the most out of this walk. If you’re keen to get up close and personal with some Australian animals, the nearby Caversham Wildlife Park is home to koalas, kangaroos and wombats as well as a variety of farm animals.

Swan Valley isn’t short of dining options, with approximately 70 restaurants and cafes to choose from. Or if you’re after an alfresco experience, pack a picnic and enjoy one of Swan Valley’s gorgeous natural spots. The region is also famous for its local produce so you’ll want to leave room to sample some of this local produce, including olives, cheese, preserves, chocolate, nougat and ice cream.

If you’re travelling in October, Swan Valley hosts its annual ‘Spring in the Valley’ weekend. This is one of Australia’s biggest food and wine festivals.

Getting There

Swan Valley is easy to reach in your Hertz Perth Airport Car Rental. It’s a short twenty minute drive and parking is plentiful. Alternatively, you could take the Swan River cruise or organise a chauffeured car if you’d prefer to leave your hire car behind so you can properly sample the wines.
