Dear Valued Customer,
Like many other businesses around the world, Hertz has been deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent downturn in domestic and international travel.
As such I wish to reassure our valued customers that Hertz is doing all it can to keep the business operating as smoothly as possible in both Australia and New Zealand – and indeed right across the APAC region.
It was announced overnight that Hertz Global Holdings (the US based entity) has voluntarily filed petitions for reorganisation under Chapter 11 in the United States legal process.
It’s vital that our customers understand that it is still “business as usual’’ for Hertz in Australia and New Zealand despite this latest development. Hertz Australia and Hertz New Zealand are not included in the U.S. Chapter 11 legal process. Our day-to-day operations will continue as they have been and will not be impacted in any way by this filing, nor will it affect our ability to provide rental vehicles to our customers on an ongoing basis. I am pleased to report that all our reservations, promotional offers, vouchers, loyalty and customer programs continue to operate, including Hertz Gold Plus Rewards.
“Chapter 11”, put simply, describes the move a company takes to restructure its debt and address other financial issues. During this type of restructuring, a company typically continues its usual operations so that it can emerge stronger.
The Hertz business will continue operating. The intent and purpose of Hertz’s process is not liquidation. Hertz is not going out of business.
We are preparing our operations for the recovery phase as lock-downs are lifted and corporate and leisure travellers start to return to the market.
The business has taken measures to reduce our costs to match the drop we have experienced in revenues, and while it has not been an easy journey, I am proud of the hard work and commitment our teams have been demonstrating as we seek to navigate our way through these tough times.
In summary, we are confident that we’re taking the right steps to protect the Hertz business in Australia and New Zealand and to ready it for the rebound. I’d like to thank our staff, partners and valued customers for their ongoing support and to let you know we will continue updating you moving
