Yarra Valley to Phillip Island – 140 km
Hit the road again – it’s time to head to Phillip Island. Take the scenic route through the verdant Dandenong Ranges. Take a ride on the Puffing Billy steam train, explore the secluded villages and gardens or simply marvel at the rich greenery that surrounds you.
At Phillip Island you’ll step into an outdoors playground, with thriving wildlife, peaceful beaches and secluded bush. Highlights include the Seal Rocks fur seal colony (take a boat cruise), the Koala Conservation Sanctuary, and the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix racing circuit. Be at the Penguin Parade at dusk to watch the penguins come ashore for the night.
Phillip Island to Mornington Peninsula – 100 km
Drive around Port Phillip Bay, through its cute seaside towns and idyllic beaches. Along the way there are many stopping points, from vineyards to galleries, spas to golf courses. A long lunch at a winery restaurant is a must.
Some of the peninsula’s many attractions include the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park, the Peninsula Hot springs – Australia’s first geothermal resort – a handful of top golf courses, and excellent marine opportunities all along the coast. Night time dives or snorkels offer a unique chance to interact with nocturnal animals.
Mornington Peninsula to Melbourne – 85 km
If you have time, drive to the tip of the peninsula to Sorrento before beginning your return journey to Melbourne. Here, you’ll find many dolphin and seal swimming tours.
