From Brisbane city, take the Bruce Highway north to the sun kissed Sunshine Coast. It’s worth making time to detour over to Bribie Island, just off the coast. Dolphins, dugong and turtles swim through this passage, and marine birds visit the island in spades. The island is perfect for obating and fishing, and on land there’s golfing, shopping and dining.

Continuing on north through Queensland, you may also like to stop off at one of the cute mountain villages inland like Maleny or Montville. Bask in the views over the Glasshouse Mountains and visit the galleries and art studios. If you can’t get enough of the fresh mountain air, stay overnight in a local lodge.

It’s then a breeze of a drive on the last leg through to the Sunshine Coast. You’ll be spoiled for choice here. Rent a kayak, take a stand up paddle boarding lesson, trek some of the Sunshine Coast Great Walk.
