Kirra Kite Festival

If you are a lover of kites, arts, music or food, head to Kirra Beach and join the fun as the Kirra Kite Festival returns to the Gold Coast. The Kirra Kite Festival is an exciting weekend of events celebrating kite culture. There’s also music, street performances, arts and gourmet food to enjoy. This year the festival is deemed to be bigger and better than ever, with additional events added to the program. The festivities kick off on Thursday 14th of November and wind down on Sunday the 15th.

Thursday 14 November

To get the ball rolling, a number of events are taking place on Thursday night including a charity event at local establishment Bread n Butter and a Family Magic Show at the Kirra Beach Hotel.

Friday 15 November

On Friday the 15th, the Sunset Film Jam will be taking place, a first for the Kirra Kite Festival. The Sunset Film Jam is a film festival which focuses on Point of View camera work. Point of View cameras are tiny, versatile cameras which means the films that make up the festival will leave you feeling like you are in the middle of the action. The Sunset Film Jam will take place in Roughton Park, on the Kirra foreshore.

Saturday 16 November

On the night of Saturday 16 November, the Flavours of Kirra component of the festival comes to life. Starting at 5pm and continuing on til late, the cafes and restaurants of the local restaurant precinct will be offering food and wine specials and there will be plenty of entertainment taking place. In addition, there will also be night kite flying and fire shows.

Sunday 17 November

Sunday is when most of the action will be taking place. Starting at 10am and lasting all day, there will be an ongoing celebration of kites as well as music, food and performances. You’ll have the chance to see an impressive range of character kites from Australia as well as overseas. There will also be plenty of entertainment, activities for kids, delicious food for sale, market stalls and rides.
