Coastal towns are often popular holiday destinations, but Forster on the New South Wales Coast is particularly favourable due to its proximity to Sydney, just under four hours away.
Most coastal towns boast sprawling beaches and Forster is no exception. Closest to the town centre is Forster Beach, which has fairly calm waters perfect for all levels of swimmers. The beach is connected to the Forster Baths—a sectioned off pool of ocean water that is used for many local water activities. One Mile Beach is also quite popular with tourists and locals, and is patrolled during peak times.
For those looking for somewhere a little more secluded, Burgess Beach should tick the box. This stunning location is somewhat hidden by dense vegetation and sandstone pillars. Caution is required, however, when visiting this particular beach, as it is unpatrolled. A slow drive around the town is likely to reveal access to plenty of Forster’s ocean views.
There are two contrasting lookouts in Forster: the first, Bennetts Head, looks out over the waters of the South Pacific Ocean, while Cape Hawke Lookout is set high amongst the lush forests of Booti Booti National Park. The forest stretches roughly 8km along the coast and there’s plenty to explore here for a refreshing change of scenery, though it does have its own sandy shore. If you’re in town during the winter months, you may even catch a glimpse of migrating whales from the high views of the Cape Hawke Lookout.
A typical beachfront town, Forster provides all you want in a holiday spot and more. Divide your time between exploration and relaxation for a truly wonderful experience.
