Wagga Wagga Airport currently benefits from a good deal of investment, with $8m worth of construction recently completed and plans to build a new terminal. Regional Express Airlines (Rex) uses Wagga Wagga Airport as a heavy maintenance facility and the Australian Airline Pilot Academy is based here, among other businesses.
The airport is owned by the RAAF, who use their part of the airfield as a training base for new recruits.
The airport is the gateway to the Riverina region. While Wagga Wagga itself is home to fine restaurants, buzzing cafes, an excellent art gallery and the enchanting Marrambidya Wetlands, the surrounding area is dotted with award-winning boutique wineries.
