Yamba is a beautiful northern New South Wales town that sits at the mouth of the Clarence River. Located a 3.5-hour drive from Brisbane, it’s easily accessible from both Queensland and New South Wales. If you’re visiting from around Sydney, simply catch a flight to Ballina-Byron Airport and go from there.
Yamba is in the centre of some fantastic nature points. Here, you can find the UNESCO World Heritage-listed rainforest at Iluka, the incredible beaches in Brooms Head, or a surfing hotspot in Angourie.

Many people who venture down to Yamba do so because of the epic beaches and waves that surround the town. However, that’s not the only amazing thing about this surf town, as it’s also incredibly close to some magnificent bushland.
Just to the south of Yamba is the world-famous Angourie Point, which is one of the top right-hand point breaks in Australia. It’s a National Surfing Reserve which boasts both big swells for the more experienced surfers and smaller ones for those still learning the waves.
There are other spots along the Yamba Coast that are well worth a visit. Brooms Head is an exceptional stretch of rugged coast that is a perfect spot all year round. You can also visit Wooli, which is a narrow peninsula surrounded by the Wooli Wooli River, forest, and more beaches.
For those that don’t want to venture into the water, but do want to take the perfect picture from a viewpoint, head to the Yamba Lighthouse. The views here are magical, and it’s the starting point of a breathtaking 65-kilometre coastal walk. The Yuaygir coastal walk will truly captivate you with all the twists and turns along the gorgeous coastline. Follow the ancient emu trails into the Yuraygir National Park for even more jaw-dropping nature.
Spend a Day Exploring with Hertz

Pay a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed rainforest at Iluka Nature Reserve. It’s just a half-hour drive from Yamba, and it definitely will be worth a visit. Head to the bush for some beautiful forest-filled walks, and keep an eye out for some native fauna and flora while you’re exploring. Try out the Iluka Rainforest Track as an easy introduction to the area.
