Alternatively, you could drive down the Anzac Hwy until you reach Glenelg, a quaint and picturesque seaside suburb that has been a firm favourite of visitors to SA for many generations.

The beautiful heritage-listed house Kandahar, built in the 1900s, is the appropriately historical headquarters of the West Torrents Historical Society in Plympton, and they regularly open their doors to the public for discussions, meetings and advice sessions – whether it’s local history or your own genealogy that’s of interest, they are well-placed to point you in the right direction. They have a lovely collection of historical documents and memorabilia that they can exhibit on request, and they’re also on a continuing mission to collect the recollections of the area’s oldest living people.

It is a wonderful thing to do if you’re travelling solo – there’s nothing like sharing some awkward, or highly skilled dance moves to break the ice. Plympton Community Centre is a hub of activity, and there is always something going on here. Whether it’s the meetings of the various clubs and societies around town, or a fitness class there is hardly a day or night where there’s not something of interest happening. With a sewing and a billiards room there are all sorts of interesting classes as well, and the administration of the centre is always very welcoming to anyone who wishes to hire a space there, ensuring there is an ever changing menu of activity to choose from here.
