When you’re on holiday, eating out three times a day can break the bank. Luckily, Melbourne has no shortage of delicious cheapeat options to help you eat well for less.

Read on for our guide to some of Melbourne’s best budget bites:

Bimbo Deluxe
376 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy

When it comes to cheap eats, it’s hard to beat Bimbo’s famous $4 pizza. At first glance you’d forgiven for thinking the peeling paint and giant baby doll figure belies an entirely different establishment – but brave the entrance and you’ll find retro lounge suites, an excellent rooftop bar and the best cheap pizza in town.

Shujinko
225 Russell Street, Melbourne CBD

It’s not a cheap eats list without ramen, and Shujinko is about as authentic as you’ll get short of a 10-hour flight to Tokyo. Tucked away in the heart of the Melbourne CBD with no English signage, Shujinko serves up flavour-filled bowls of ramen 24 hours a day. Order the Karakuchi Ramen ($13.80) for spicy, porky goodness, pile it high with Negi (green onion) and don’t look back.

Biggie Smalls
86 Smith Street, Collingwood

Hungry for something cheap, fast and just a bit guilt-inducing? Look no further than Biggie Smalls, Melbourne’s late-night kebab mecca. With rapper-inspired menu names and a mouth-watering selection of kebabs and sides all under the $15 price point, this is one late-night joint you’ll want to return to time and time again.

Viet Rose
363 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy

At first glance, it’s easy to dismiss the Viet Rose’s muted pink exterior and shabby-chic tables. But look past the décor and you’ll uncover one of Melbourne’s best kept noodle soup secrets. For $12-$14 you can get a laksa that we guarantee you’ll want to slurp long, long after you’re full.

Mr Burger
Various locations

It’s hard to go far in Melbourne without spotting one of Mr Burger’s iconic white and orange trucks – yet the prolific burger joint is a relative newcomer to the scene, beginning as a humble single truck in 2012. With a mouth-watering menu on offer (hello, Trucker Chips), it’s hard to go past the eponymous Mr Burger. And at $10, it’s one of the best value burgers around.

Trippy Taco
234 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy

It may be vegetarian, but gosh darn it is Trippy Taco good. You’ll need both hands (and several napkins) to get around their burritos, priced around $11-$13 and packed with flavour. Pair with a beer or sangria and enjoy the good vibes of this inner-Fitzroy favourite.

Lentil As Anything
Various locations

The ultimate cheap eat spot, Lentil As Anything operates on a ‘pay what you can’ basis. Choose from a healthy and delicious vegan menu of curries, salads and sweet treats, and if you’re lucky, enjoy some live local music. Cap it off with a delicious chai latte and show your appreciation to the donation jar when you leave.
