While much of Byron Bay’s raw hippie culture has evolved into more of aboho-chic vibe, the area remains a rich tapestry of artistry, creativity,naturalism and spirituality. With such a melting pot of wholesome individuals in and around Byron Bay, it’s no wonder there are so many incredible markets waiting to be discovered.

Whether you want to treat your tastebuds to some fresh local produce, browse unique handcrafted giftware, spruce up your wardrobe with some funky ensembles or simply bask in the laid-back atmosphere, you won’t be disappointed.

Byron Bay Community Market

The Byron Bay Community Market is the region’s biggest, held on the first Sunday of every month (plus the third Sunday of December and January) at the Butler Street Reserve. This market boasts several acres of colourful stalls full of breathtaking artwork, vibrant clothing, unique trinkets and organic produce. Once you’re ready to rest your feet, grab a freshly squeezed sugar cane juice and relax as the featured busker plays some soothing tunes. There’s also face painting, candle making and other activities for the kids.

Byron Artisan Market

The Byron Bay Artisan Market is held on Saturday nights from October through March at Railway Park on Jonson St from 5-9pm. Though smaller than the Community Market, it’s a chance to soak up the best arts and crafts from all the locals and enjoy the vibrant ambience of a night market. Don’t worry – there are still and plenty of delicious delicacies and tranquil tunes to keep you going.

Weekly Farmers’ Markets

There’s something special about heading down to a farmers’ market and picking up a basketful of freshly grown produce straight from the source. Byron Bay is big on organic food, sustainability and supporting local business, so there’s no better way to get involved in the community than by strolling to one of the many markets held in Byron, Mullumbimby, Lismore and numerous other parts of the region. Peruse the countless stalls stacked with fruit, vegetables, coffee, meat, eggs and a host of gourmet delicacies; even if you don’t purchase anything, the atmosphere is enough to warrant a visit.

There are literally dozens of markets to explore in the region, and don’t forget – there are plenty of boutique shops, art galleries and cafes to explore in town too.
