If theRiverina region is Australia’s food basket, thenLeeton, home ofSunRice, is its rice bowl.Leeton is located 550km west of Sydney in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, a hugely productive farming spot. The best way to travel here is by plane into nearbyLeeton Airport.
Leeton, like nearby Griffith and the Australian capital Canberra, was designed by the American architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahoney Griffin in the early 20th century. You can see their influence in the neatly laid out street plan as you drive around town.
Enjoy the local food and wine at the many fine restaurants concentrated around the top of Pine Avenue where it meets the war memorial at the very centre of Leeton.
