A Festival of the Arts in an Idyllic Countryside Town

Lismore is acolourful town in northern New South Wales, just south of the Queensland border. It is surrounded by rolling hills and charming country lanes which make exploring the area a true delight.

Downtown Lismore lies alongside Wilsons River and provides a range of cultural and recreational activities for visitors. The Visitor’s Centre is a great place to start as here you’ll find out more about local highlights, and have a chance to see the Indoor Rainforest, a unique attraction that promotes contemplation on the history of rainforests in the area. There’s also a selection of local crafts and produce for you to peruse.

The cultural influence runs thick through the town, so expect to encounter several galleries and performing arts centres. The Northern Rivers Performing Arts company (NORPA) performs annually at the Lismore City Hall and watching one of these performances is almost considered essential when visiting the city. They also host touring performers including theatre troupes, musicians and comedians.

The Lismore Lantern Parade has become a pinnacle of Lismore tourism and is a celebration of arts and culture that includes exhibitions, workshops, market stalls and the titular parade. It’s a community-based program symbolising optimism and designed to encourage people from all walks of life to get involved in the arts. The Parade attracts around 30,000 people each year.

If you’re looking to reconnect with nature there are a number of parks in the area, and the Wilsons River Experience Walk combines the abundant artistry of the city with the serenity of this beautiful countryside. A stay in this pulsating town is an immersion in culture that is certain to bring out your inner artist.
