The Camden Haven River has a netted tidal pool if you want to cool off, and the pristine waters are inviting year round. You can continue your drive towards the impressive North Brother Mountain to lush Laurieton, famous for their Riverwalk market and fascinating boutiques. Surfers should head to Crescent Head, a tiny speck on the coast just 50 minutes’ drive north of Port Macquarie Airport. This little town is a national surf reserve surrounded by a marine park and has one of the best longboard surf breaks in Australia – it’s home to the famous Malibu Classic competition every May but the rest of the year even non-champions can surf some of the best waves in the world. For the non-surfers in the party there an impressive golf course and the beautiful Goolawah National Park which has walking trails, picnic areas and camping sites right on the beach for you to enjoy.
