Tamworth’s Country Music Festival is held over 10 days in January every year. Attracting up to 50,000 fans, this is one of the biggest music festivals in the southern hemisphere and it culminates in the Golden Guitar Awards. If you’re visiting outside of the festival, you can soak up country music vibes at the Walk a Country Mile Museum, the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, or the 12-metre tall golden guitar at the Big Golden Guitar Tourist Centre!

The fertile countryside around Tamworth truly is a land of milk and honey - and berries, beef, olives and vineyards. There are over 20 cellar doors focussing on cool climate wines. You can taste all this produce at one of Tamworth’s many fine restaurants. Try the Pig and Tinder Box or one of the many other eateries on Peel Street.
Tamworth is ‘The First City of Lights’ – the first place in Australia to install streetlights powered by public electricity (in 1888). You can find out more about this fascinating story thanks to the dedicated volunteers at this wonderful museum.
