Explore Wollongong in your Rental Car
The beauty of Wollongong is simply unmatched, with plenty of beaches and nature spots to enjoy. The town is home to some beautiful cafes and restaurants, and with a thriving nightlife too, you’ll always find something to do during your stay here.
From the seemingly endless cafes that line the streets through to the delicious restaurants, eateries, and bars that you can end your day with, they truly do have a lot to offer in this seaside town. Perhaps have a morning bite to eat at Lee and Me, POD Emporium and Espresso, or even Mudcat Cafe before heading to the beach for a surf or a swim in the ocean pool.
If it’s not a great day for the beach, you can head to the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere, Nan Tien. With plenty of history-based walking tours happening all day, you’ll be able to learn all about the area as soon as you arrive.
There are plenty of wineries in the area, so perhaps take a day out from your busy holiday schedule to explore them. Make sure to always have a designated driver if you do decide to try the wines and make a day of it. The south coast has some gorgeous wineries, like Crooked River Winery, Silos Estate, Coolangatta Estate Winery, and Mountain Ridge Wines. Simply book ahead or drop in on the day and see if they have any spaces.
Spend a Day Exploring with Hertz
There are plenty of road trips to do while you are staying in Wollongong, and all of them are easily accessible in your rental car.
Why not try out the Grand Pacific Drive? At 140-kilometres in length, it can be done in a day, or you can have a rest stop overnight if you want to properly explore all the stops and viewpoints along the drive. It starts with the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge, which is a regular on plenty of Instagram posts each week. The view here is world-famous, so have a great time driving across it, or head to the scenic viewpoint above the bridge itself and take a picture with the bridge below.
Continue driving through to the Royal National Park which is the oldest national park in Australia. There are some beautiful natural sights here, like Wedding Cake Rock, Figure 8 Pools, and Wattamolla Beach to just name a few.
Wollongong and the surrounding areas are simply beautiful and well worth a visit. From the relaxed ocean pools and sea vibes by the coast to the gorgeous Grand Pacific Drive, there is always something to do while here in Wollongong.
