Boondall is one of the entertainment hubs of Brisbane, with locals flocking to the Boondall Entertainment Centre to see all the big shows and sporting events that happen throughout the year. Holiday on Ice
The perfect place to escape to when the temperature soars, Boondall IceWorld, is an ice skating rink that is open to the public almost every day of the year. They do beginners and refresher classes in case your rink skills need a brush up, or to just give it a go on your own you can easily hire some skates and hit the rink here with the whole family. There’s a café here, so you can warm up with a coffee or a hot chocolate and then you’ll be ready for another round on the ice. The kids can make all their Frozen dreams come true here and have the coolest time ever.
Two wheels of Fun
If you’re a keen cyclist, then you’ll be delighted to be in the vicinity of “Brisbane’s longest bike ride” – there are a hundred kilometres of interconnected bike paths that run right through the Boondall Wetlands. Of course, if you’re not up for the full hundred clicks you can simply enjoy a section of it. More than 90% of the trail is off-road, so you can cycle safely here and not worry about traffic. Depending on the direction you take and how long you ride for, you can enjoy beaches, wetlands, bush and more on this epic ride.
Survey the View with Anne Beasley
Considered one of the best lookouts in Brisbane, the Anne Beasley lookout is an easy-drive up option that gives you stunning views across the Boondall Wetlands. What it lacks in elevation it more than makes up for in interest – this is a great spot for some birdwatching, and the sweeping views out across the wetlands are enjoyable at any time of day. On the weekends, volunteer guides are there to tell you what you’re looking at and are a wealth of information about the many species that call this environment home. If looking at the view has you tempted to make a closer inspection, then take advantage of the many walking and cycling trails here to continue the adventure.
Model Boating
Something different to entertain the kids, every Saturday and often during the week as well, the Model Boats are out in force on the lake at the wetlands. The serious enthusiasts bring their treasured boats for a run on the lake, and there are also hire boats for people who just want to give it a go themselves. It’s a fascinating hobby, and one that is very beginner-friendly if you just want to try piloting one of the little boats for yourself. There are friendly ducks to feed and there’s also a great barbeque area to use here as well.
