Rocklea is a booming industrial suburb of Brisbane, 9km from theQueenslandcapital’sCBD. It is particularly well known for its fresh produce and vintage goods markets.
Located in flood-prone land and surrounded by the Brisbane River to the north, Oxley Creek to the south and west and Stable Swamp Creek to the east, Rocklea was originally known as Rocky Water Holes. It has a fairly low residential population of just over 1,000.
Rocklea is probably best known to Brisbanites as the home of Brisbane Markets. This 100-hectare site at the north of the suburb between Sherwood Road and the Brisbane River is known for its food and flowers. On Saturday, the market is primarily for fresh produce while on Sunday, you can pick up new and vintage home goods.
