A small rural town off the coast of Tasmania, Wynyard is a rapidly growing tourist centre. With visitors from all over Australia flocking to see the extinct Table Cape volcano, it’s been receiving a great deal of attention from travellers all over the world.
Another local attraction of note is Fossil Bluff, a naturally-formed headland falling onto the Bass Strait, where many fossils are found. There is also the Inglis River, which attracts many visitors for its yacht club and anchorage for fishing boats. However, owing to risky tides, swimming in the river isn’t recommended. There are good swimming beaches at East Wynyard, with campsites for accommodation.
Within walking distance of the centre of Wynyard is Burnie Airport, which is Wynyard’s own airport. This small, but efficient airport connects the city of Burnie to Wynyard, and also offers easy access to Melbourne, King Island and Devonport via short passenger flights. There are other options for travellers to get around, with taxis, buses and car hires at Wynyard airport. If you’re on your way to Wynyard, then booking a car rental from Wynyard airport is a good option, with multiple facilities provided at the airport itself with ample parking.
