At just over three hours away on a flight from Sydney and Melbourne, heading to New Zealand’s capital for a weekend away is easy – as well as very worthwhile.
After getting into Wellington Airport, you’ll be able to pick up a rental car and drive to the city in just 20 minutes.
Be prepared to be wowed by Wellington. It’s a compact city buzzing with an array of contemporary restaurants, microbreweries, world-class cafes and more delicious wine than you could drink in a lifetime, try as you might.
The streets of New Zealand’s capital are vibrant and filled with museums, galleries and world-class eateries. Take time and enjoy the city’s vibe in the bohemian Cuba Quarter before exploring the wonderful waterfront.
The outskirts of the city give way to stunning countryside and some of the world’s best vineyards. Make sure to organise a designated driver and head for the hills to find out what all fuss is about New Zealand’s world renowned Pinot Noir.
To end the day on a high note (pun intended), head up to the summit of Mount Victoria for sunset and enjoy panoramic views of the city and the surrounding waterfront.
After, head back to the city for some food and drinks to while away the evening.
