Alicante, or Alacant, both the Valencian and Spanish being official names, is a port city in Spain. Known for being a historical Mediterranean port, Alicante, as of 2015, is ranked as the second largest Valencian city, with a population of 328,648 people.
Located on the south eastern stretch of the Costa Blanca, Alicante is a hub for tourists. Of all of Spain’s provincial capitals, Alicante is the most influenced by tourism, especially due to its close proximity to the airport, owing to which, there are multiple resorts dotting the coastline. Getting to Alicante is very easy and convenient, with a short car rental from Alicante airport. However, despite the constant flux of tourists, Alicante manages to preserve its stunning charm. With quaint castles, an ancient quarter and a lovely waterfront, it is a beautiful fusion of nature and mankind.
The old town, Barrio de la Santa Cruz, is exactly what you expect it to be – cobbled narrow streets, vivid, colored houses and an eclectic nightlife scene. The culinary culture of this city is also praiseworthy. Alicante comes alive at night, whether you’re downing pints,or growing to the local music on the dance floor. Sightseeing will be a breeze if you have a car hire from Alicante airport.
