Since the 1830s, Salamanca Place has been a thriving hive of industry, and since the seventies it has been home to a fantastic tourist hotspot showcasing local arts and crafts. Hobart’s Salamanca Market is famous for its eclectic stalls, great food, live music and vibrant vibe. With more than three hundred stalls, touring them all can make for an exhausting experience, and it can be hard to know where the best bargains are to be had. Here are some of the local favourites you shouldn’t miss.

Naturally Millie Ma

This stall sells beautiful handmade soaps – from the hand-pressed organic virgin olive oil, to the locally made goat yoghurt to the essential oils every ingredient has been carefully selected to create the ultimate in quality. There’s a whole range of bath and body products for you to enjoy here so pick your favourite scent and enjoy.

Alpaca South

There’s a wide range of alpaca products for sale here, all sourced from the Wharncliffe Stud in Kingston. Your knitting, crochet and felting projects will never be more beautiful than with these amazing yarns. If you’d prefer something ready made, they have a gorgeous collection of shawls, beanies and mitts that will keep you cosy through the coldest winter.

Lunaris Gemstones

These traders come fresh from the Lune River Gemfields bringing beautiful fossil remnants of a Jurassic Forest. There’s a fantastic range of unique jewellery items and treasures for your home décor here.
