Away with the birds
The Birdland Animal Park offers an amazing hands-on experience for adults and kids alike. As the name suggests, they have plenty of birds – more than a hundred species, in fact, but that’s just the start of the things to see here. They also have Koalas, Wombats and Snakes that you can not only see, but cuddle as well – sure to be an unforgettable photo opportunity. There’s deer and kangaroos to feed too, and six acres of landscaped grounds to explore. If you need a rest you can see all the highlights from their scenic train as well.
Moruya Country Markets
A short drive from Batemans Bay is the beautiful rural borough of Moruya, and if you’re there on a Saturday you’re in for a treat, because that’s when the famous Moruya Markets happen. With fresh produce stalls from local suppliers, and all kinds of arts and crafts on display too, you will have a wonderful time browsing all the treasures on offer. They have a great second hand bric-a-brac section too, where you can pick up a truly unique souvenir of your travels. With the market situated on the banks of the river you can usually rely on a cool breeze, so this is sure to be a pleasant and relaxing day out.
Peaceful Bingie Bingie Point
Located in the Eurobodalla National Park, you will find the golden beaches of beautiful Bingie Bingie point. The combination of yellow sand and rocky outcrops means the surf is spectacular here, and the dramatic views will take your breath away. During whale-watching season, this is a fantastic place to see whales, as if you make the trek to the hills above the beach you can see out to sea for a vast expanse. Whatever the time of year, this is the perfect place for beach lovers to relax with some sun, sand and surf. Enjoy the swimming and sunbathing and get some of that all-important rest and relaxation in.
Challenge Mount Budawang
Between Braidwood and Batemans Bay you will find the impressive peak of Mount Budawang. It stands 1129 metres tall, and is a spectacular part of the local landscape. If admiring it from afar isn’t enough for you though, there is the opportunity to traverse the trail to the peak yourself. Start from Mongarlowe and set out on the four kilometre trail to the top – you will have to climb 430 meters to get all the way there, but the reward is one of the most spectacular views of the region you’re ever likely to see. The trail is challenging, but you’re in the shade most of the time, and there’s plenty of beautiful flora and fauna to encourage your efforts along the way.
Sea Kayak Trek
The area around Batemans Bay is full of rocky cliffs and coves, and many of them are not accessible by land at all – that’s why a sea kayak trip can be really rewarding. Set out with your guide in double expedition style kayaks to share the paddling work and be amazed at the secluded beaches, caves and other natural wonders you’ll see. You can hike, swim and snorkel as well, along with all the rock-clambering your heart desires on this trip.
