Scenic every which way

Katoomba’s natural beauty is on full display wherever you look, and there’s no better place to fully explore it than Scenic World. They offer a whole gamut of options for exploration – there’s a cable car, a railway, walking tracks and a skyway so you’ll be able to take in the views from every possible angle. For the real adventure seekers there’s an extensive array of walking tracks, including a sixteen-kilometre loop. If you prefer a more leisurely way to see it all then you can enjoy round trips on the cable car or railway. There’s also a bird show to enjoy and a variety of other entertainments as well, so you’ll definitely want to make a day of it.

Art in the mountains

The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre is one of Katoomba’s arts hubs. In the complex you will find the Blue Mountains City Art Gallery, where you can see amazing landscapes and portraiture showcasing the region along with international works. You can also enjoy the Katoomba Library, and an interactive exhibition called “Into the Blue” that focuses on the natural landscape and the history of the Blue Mountains. World Heritage Explorations

The Beautiful Blue Mountains National Park is a World Heritage listed area, and when you have a chance to take in the spectacular scenery and unique local environments, it won’t be hard to see why. In the World Heritage Centre you will find the Waradah Australian Centre, which is a live performance space like no other. With a constantly evolving show the performers here bring history to life – looking at both the indigenous perspectives on offer and the history of the area since European settlement – tales of the Dreamtime along with stories about bushrangers, the gold rush and the heroism of the ANZACS all play a part here in what’s sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Three Sisters

No trip to Katoomba is complete without taking a look at the most iconic landmark in the area – the “Three Sisters”. These large rocky outcrops are a sight to behold, and the Echo Point lookout is the way to get closest to them – there’s a range of viewing platforms and even a walking track to the first of the “Sisters” for intrepid souls looking for a bit of a challenge. The local Gundungurra and Darug people tell the story of how the three sisters were transformed to stone by a powerful sorcerer for their own protection, but misadventure took him away before he could turn them back into humans. You can also see the beautiful “Ruined Castle” formation and Mount Solitary. For an area renowned for natural beauty these formations are the ultimate showcase and a fitting centrepiece for this beautiful part of the world.
