Kids rule at Kidstown
If bigger is better, then this is going to be one of the best playgrounds you’ve ever visited, with an extensive five acres of equipment to explore. There are lots of undercover and shaded areas here so you can stay out of the sun while the kids play. Take a ride on the scenic railway so you can get a good look at everything, and then unleash the crew on the enormous playgrounds. You can relax while they take full advantage of all the fun on offer here.
Motor On
Car and Bike enthusiasts won’t want to miss a visit to the Shepparton Motor Museum – it’s jam-packed full of motorbikes, with more than a hundred funky automobiles and a whole heap of memorabilia to marvel at. They also house a whole collection of vintage bicycles and some colonial era oddities from the “Furphy” collection as well. They regularly have rallies and market days here too, so if you have your eye on the next treasure for your current restoration project you’re going to have a wonderful time here. Events happen year round so there’s always something new to see here.
Say Hi to Sam
The Shepparton Art Museum, or “SAM” as it is affectionately known, has an intriguing collection of both local artworks and those from further afield, having an enthusiastic approach for new acquisitions. Their after school and holiday programs books out quickly, so be sure to make your reservations in advance for the budding young artists in your family. They’ll gain some new skills and confidence in their artistic endeavours and you’ll rest assured they’re getting an experience that’s a cut above the rest. Their international ceramics collection is the envy of many other institutions and their collection of Australian Contemporary artworks is also well worth a wander.
Make some ‘Aquamoves’
Touting themselves as “the” place to go for fitness and fun, this complex includes indoor and outdoor pools and a splash park for the little ones. Their 25-metre outdoor pool is perfect for getting some laps done, and their indoor complex has a hydrotherapy pool that’s perfect to soothe aching muscles with some gentle stretches. They also have a well-equipped gym with a variety of equipment and group classes, so if you want to get a workout in while you’re on holiday, this is an excellent place to do so.
Lunch by the Lake
Beautiful Victoria Park is home to a lovely café over the lake that will be a pleasure to spend a couple of hours in, and once you have refuelled there is plenty to explore here. Try the “all access” playground or the skate park, and then stroll across the bridge to make friends with the birdlife here. There’s also a Canoe Club, where you can hire a boat and set out for your very own lake adventure – there’s two person canoes and kayaks for hire here so you can make your choice and enjoy the lake from a whole new angle.
