Everything you need

We aim to make hiring a car from Pisa Airport as simple as possible, which is why we offer a wide range of different services and vehicles to meet your needs.

Hertz in Pisa Airport

Whether you’re immersing yourself in Italian food culture, or exploring the illustrious Romanesque buildings – Pisa Airport is the perfect place to explore the heart of Tuscany and the stunning sights of Pisa.

Home to the iconic Leaning Tower and an array of other architectural delights, when you land in the heart of the Tuscany region you’ll want to get straight in your rental car and on to the open Italian roads.

Pisa Airport is located just a 10-minute drive from the centre – It’s a city with many guises, treating visitors to city sights while also being a stone’s throw away from the glittering coast.

You’ll find our pick-up point easy to locate, just follow the car rental signs when you arrive at the airport. We pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional level of service, whether you’re in Pisa for a few days on business or you’re planning a big adventure across Italy.

Driving in and around Pisa Airport

Heading out of Pisa Airport and on to the Tuscan roads couldn’t be easier, as the airport is really well connected. You’ll find that the road layout is logical and that signs are easy to follow so you can be sure you’re heading in the right direction.

If you decide to head straight from Pisa Airport and into the city itself then you’ll travel on the Via Bonanno Pisano for 15 minutes before arriving in the heart of the city.

As you’d expect, Pisa is a tourist hotspot, but everything in the city is spread out. The roads inside the medieval walls of the city are Limited Traffic Zones, meaning you can’t enter them without a permit during certain times.

These areas are designed to protect the historic landmarks within them and are clearly marked with signs saying ‘ZTL’. Pay close attention to avoid landing a fine.

Pisa is pretty good for parking – both paid and free – with spaces available close to its historic heart to make it easy to park up and stroll the short distance on foot.

Head out of Pisa and you can enjoy the beauty of the open road and the rolling hills of Tuscany. You’ll be driving on the right in Italy.

Major cities are connected by autostradas, which are high speed freeways reaching speeds of 130km/h, meaning you can easily get around to see other cities which are close by.

Lucca is just over 30km away from Pisa Airport and draws the crowds with its unblemished Renaissance architecture and traditional old town, making it the perfect place to stop for lunch and to take in the surroundings.

A quick guide to Pisa

Hiring a car at Pisa Airport gives you a great jumping off point to explore the Tuscan region of Italy. Just hop in your car and take yourself in a wonderful new direction, whether you want to soak up the sun on the beach or tick off every sight on your bucket list.

Explore Pisa

Pisa Airport is located around 6km away from the centre of Pisa, so within easy reach if you want to explore all the city has to offer. Of course the most iconic sight is the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which attracts visitors from all over the world.

Learn how the tower started to lean during construction, as well as climb the many steps to the top for incredible views out across the city.

Pisa’s cultural heritage extends much further than the Leaning Tower. Whether you’re dining in the high-end restaurants, savouring the incredible street food, or wandering around the Square of Miracles, the city offers culinary delights and bags of heritage.

If you want to step outside the city on your foodie adventure then San Miniato, at just over 30 minutes away, is renowned for its truffle hunting and tasting.

Hit the beach

Just a stone’s throw away from Pisa is the stunning Tuscan coastline. Mirina di Pisa beach is only a short distance away from the centre and is perfect for a day of unwinding.

Take the A12 then join the E80 and in around 30 minutes you’ll arrive in Versilia. This fashionable resort attracts the rich and famous as they flock to enjoy the incredible beach and lively nightlife.

Take a trip around the Tuscan region

The Tuscan region is a beautiful area of Italy and ripe for exploration. Just over an hour away from the airport is the breathtaking city of Florence.

The incredible Renaissance architecture on show here makes Florence one of the most picturesque places in Italy. Take a stroll to Piazzale Michelangelo and you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

Go on an Italian road trip

If you want to venture further afield and take in lots of little Italian towns along the way then consider a trip to the cosmopolitan city of Milan.

The Italian fashion capital is just under 300km away, but this fast-paced city is more than a fashion hub, it’s the home of striking buildings including Milan Cathedral, a beautiful example of Gothic architecture.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could plan a big road trip across the country to the capital city of Rome. It’s less than 400km from Pisa, with plenty of places to stop at along the way.

When you arrive in Rome you can spend a day visiting the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Sistine Chapel to name just a few of the many incredible attractions to enjoy in the city.

Car rental from Pisa Airport gives you the freedom to explore as much of the city and surrounding Tuscan region as you like – as well as heading even further afield to discover more of Italy’s many delights.
