One of the longest chairlifts in the world, this is an amazing way to see the scenic Cataract Gorge. The chairlift moves at a sedate pace, so there’s plenty of opportunities to take photos as you take in the view. They have special accommodations to ensure the safety of younger kids, so the whole family can enjoy the experience.

Not far out of Launceston is this unique wetlands reserve to explore. Explore the interpretation centre where volunteers present activities and talk all about wetlands ecology. There’s a pram and wheelchair friendly boardwalk with a bird hide, where you can see the local avian residents up close.

George Town and the Low Head Pilot Station Maritime Museum

Just 40 mins from Launceston is the historic town of George Town. There’s plenty to explore here – galleries, gift shops and plenty of quaint colonial buildings make this a particularly scenic spot. Australia’s oldest pilot station can also be found nearby, which is a great place to spend the day. The museum has an extensive array of maritime relics and there’s plenty of displays to explore. If you’re there at noon you will hear the Grand Lighthouse’s foghorn, the only operating one of its kind in the country.

The Tramway Museum

The kids will enjoy a tram ride and the other entertainments on offer in this hands-on exhibit. There’s a playground to scramble on and exhibits to explore. Enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee in the café and let them roam – there’s going to be lots to keep them entertained here.

A scenic drive through the hop fields will bring you to beautiful Scottsdale. Colonial buildings and plenty of history to explore and wandering the galleries and shops make for a pleasant interlude. Make a stop at Bridestowe Lavender Farm to enjoy the violet fields, try some local produce and enjoy some gourmet treats.

Seahorse World at Beauty Point

Seahorse World and the Southern Ocean Aquarium is a fascinating place for the whole family to explore. This is the world’s first working seahorse farm where you can get a closer look at these fascinating creatures, along with plenty of other creatures from the ocean.
