There’s nothing quite landing in Sydney, Australia’s largest and most internationally renowned city. Filled with incredible landmarks like the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, this harbour city is truly one of a kind. Let’s not forget the beaches that make it so magical - from Bondi to Bronte, to the North Shore of Manly, Curl Curl, and even Palm Beach.
Hiring a car in Sydney is a smart decision, mostly because it’s very spread out geographically, and you will want to see as much of it as possible. Don’t just keep to the inner city dwellings, as there is plenty to discover in all directions, like out west to the Blue Mountains and beyond, and down south where the oldest National Park in Australia, the Royal National Park, is. You can do it all with a hire car!
There’s so much to see and do while here, so read on to discover what’s waiting for you from Sydney Airport.
Hire a Car from Sydney Airport
Once you leave the tarmac of Sydney Airport, you’ll likely be itching to discover everything that this city has to offer. Explore the northern beaches, immerse yourself in the nightlife of Darlinghurst, head to the fashionable Surry Hills, the artistic Newtown, the famous Bondi Beach, or make your way in your car to either side of the city for coastal excursions and seaside activities.
Maybe pencil a night in for dinner at the Opera Bar, before a sunset stroll through Circular Quay and the Rocks. There’s nothing quite as special as seeing the sunset over the sails of the Opera House, with the Harbour Bridge not far behind it.
The food in Sydney is simply delicious, like Chin Chin in Surry Hills, the younger sister of its flagship restaurant in Melbourne, or Totti’s - the delicious Italian eatery that’s made its mark on the streets of Bondi. If you’re in for something more upscale, we have Bennelong House which is inside the walls of the Opera House itself - truly a once in a lifetime culinary destination. Whatever cuisine you fancy, Sydney will have a delicious restaurant waiting for you, so make sure to research ahead of time to make the most of the food here.
Of course, a day or two at the beach is a necessity, so make sure to pack a good swimsuit and a sense of fun for jumping the waves! Bondi Beach is the most famous of them all here in Australia, so it’s only a rite of passage to marvel at the 1-kilometre stretch of sand. There are plenty of beaches to explore outside of the East, so head up North to see Manly and Curl Curl, or even to the Harbourside and spend a day at Nielsen’s Park - any option you pick will be a great one.
Rent A Car and Explore The New South Wales Coast
If you’re looking for a few days outside of the city, there’s a multitude of destinations to explore within a short drive in your car hire. Spend a few days hiking through the lush rainforest in the Blue Mountains, where the Three Sisters will be a welcoming sight before you descend into the deep canyons that make up this incredible point of nature. If being out and about in the bush isn’t your thing, why not head to Bowral or the Hunter, where a stay in a countryside town will surely be a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of Sydney city.
If the beach is your location of choice, then the New South Wales Coast has plenty to choose from both north and south of the city. To the north we have the central coast, Newcastle and Port Stephens, to name a few. Down south there’s Wollongong, Jervis Bay, and Batemans Bay for example. In fact, the southern East Coast of New South Wales is non-stop natural beauty, so you’ll want to take your time with the drive and have plenty of stops along the way.
