There are many people who consider the Sunshine Coast a perfect paradise, but a change of scenery is always welcome – get on the road and explore the magic of Fraser Island, then take a long way home to discover the other treasures along the way.

Tin Can Bay

Just out of Noosa Heads you’ll find the tranquil and scenic town of Tin Can Bay. The town has fun shops to explore along with galleries and plenty of great cafes. There’s also the chance to get out into the bay itself with sailing and/or fishing charter – from a few hours to a couple of nights under the stars there are plenty of options. With a reputation for world-class seafood, you should enjoy some of the local offerings – the Tin Can Bay Marina Bar and Grill Restaurant has a view second to none along with a great array of seafood and other tasty meals on offer.

Rainbow Beach

Known as the gateway to Fraser Island, Rainbow Beach is also a wonderful place to explore in its own right. For a truly memorable experience, spend some time with the expert crew at Rainbow Beach Horse Rides – from novice to expert they offer a range of unforgettable rides along the beach – going on horseback allows you into areas where vehicles aren’t allowed, so you can enjoy the unspoilt, lesser-known beaches. Hervey Bay

Why not take the long way home? If you leave Fraser Island at the northern ferry point you will find yourself in beautiful Hervey Bay. From July-December don’t miss the opportunity to join a whale watching tour – one of the smaller boats with a “swim with the whales” option will enable you to get up close and personal with these gentle giants. Take a stroll down Urangan Pier, it’s almost a kilometre long but there’s plenty of benches along the way so you can take a break and enjoy the view. Hervey Bay also has a wide variety of seasonal open-air markets that cater to all tastes – do some shopping, enjoy something tasty from a food van and make a day of it.
